What Are The Causes of IgA Nephropathy

IgA Nephritis is most commonly known as IgA Nephropathy or Berger's Diseases. It is an inflammation of the kidney that induced by deposition of immunoglobulin A and its immune complex in the mesangial area of the kidney. IgA Nephritis occurs most on Asians and Caucasians and it affects more men than women.

There are two major clinical presentations of IgA nephropathy: the classic presentation with gross hematuria, often recurrent, following shortly after an upper respiratory infection; and persistent asymptomatic microscopic hematuria with or without mild to moderate proteinuria . The diagnosis may be suspected in patients with the classic presentation, but must be confirmed by kidney biopsy which, as described below, often provides prognostic information.

IgA Nephropathy is mainly caused by the deposition of immune complex in the mesangial area, and among the mass of complexes, IgA occupies a large percent of them, so the disease is caused IgA Nephropathy. However, it does not mean that IgA is the unique complex, in fact, there are also IgM, IgG and other kinds of complexes. Experts have proved that IgA Nephropathy is not a kind of simplex disease, but a comprehensive one without mixed features.

Though there are mucosal immune deficiencies in your body, you don't suffer from it usually. However, when you suffer from upper respiratory tract infection (cold, tonsillitis, rhinitis, pharyngitis), urinary tract infections (including asymptomatic upper urinary tract infection), stomatitis , periodontitis, enteritis, etc., it is likely to cause IgA Nephropathy. What's more, if these infections can't be controlled well, your IgA Nephropathy will repeat easily.

Various infections cause IgA Nephropathy and then renal fibrosis starts. Inflammatory responses in the process of renal fibrosis will cause pathological damage of renal glomerular mesangial cells, affecting its function of filtration. As a result, hematuria, proteinuria, high blood pressure will appear. At the early stage of renal fibrosis, it's still reversible. But once scar tissue forms, it will develop into Uremia gradually and the patients can only rely on dialysis to maintain their life. Therefore, timely treatment is necessary.

From the above reasons, we can see that most of the IgA Nephropathy is consequence of weak immune system and wrong lifestyle. This also reminds us to exercise more and build up good habits in daily life.
